New scientific findings have made red wine quite popular in recent years, and many people drink red wines for their antioxidant qualities, and for how they can help prevent heart disease. Red wines are truly wonderful, however, there are other wines that are also wonderful as well. White wines, although they might not be as publicized, are equally tasty, and they are very subtle and have an exquisite mixture of sweet and mild tastes.

There are many people who do not know white wines as well as they know red wines, and the often are missing out on the wonderful tastes that white wines can provide. If you are unfamiliar with the various kinds of white wines that are available then below are some of the most commonly found kinds of white wines.

Chardonnay
Chardonnay is the most well known kind of white wine, and its’ popularity is well founded. Chardonnay actually was first made in France, and it got its’ name from the grapes it was made from, called Chardonnay grapes. This white wine combines fruity flavors, including citrus, pineapple, apple, and peach, with hints of vanilla, and slight nutty flavors. This white wine varies in hue from a transparent yellow, to a transparent light green in color and will look elegant in crystal on any table.

Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is another white wine that originated in France, and you can also find it in the country New Zealand as well. It has a wonderful fresh flavor that leans to a slight herbal taste along with a hint of fruitiness as well. This wine is best when it is consumed immediately to preserve the fresh taste.

Chenin Blanc
Chenin Blanc usually comes form the Loire valley in France, and often many people overlook this wonderful white wine. It has wonderful flavors that you can enjoy, and when you drink it you will taste undertones of lime and pineapple with a hint of honey that makes it sweet. This wine lasts for a long time, and will taste fresh for ten  years in the future if you choose to keep it that long. More than likely you will not want to keep this tasty wine in your cellar very long though.

Gewurztraminer
This is another white wine that comes from France, Alsace to be exact. This wine has a very bold taste, and you will taste a hint of flowers and glimmers of spice when you drink this white wine.

Pinot Gris
Pinot Gris also comes from Alsace, France, as well as New Zealand and Italy as well. This white wine has a slight taste of apricot, and has a very crisp taste.

Riesling
This is a lovely white wine that will remind you a bit of tea. It comes from France and Germany and has a distinct honey like taste to it.

This is not a comprehensive list of white wines, there are many more that have not been mentioned. All white wines are elegant and have lovely flavors. If you are serving fish, chicken, pasta with white sauce, or any kind of soft cheese, then white wine is a great companion. White wines are wonderful with food, or even by itself if you desire. You can find pleasure in white wines as well as red wines, and both can be a lovely complement to an elegant meal.
